This is a recent piece which had its premiere in Richmond, Virginia in April of 1997 by Mark Bernat, for whom the work was written. Fred Cohen conducted the University of Richmond Orchestra.
The work is in three movements. The melodic and harmonic orientation is modal/tonal/pandiatonic. The solo bass part is in solo tuning and makes use of harmonics at times. Although the orchestral parts can be performed by a college orchestra, the solo requires a true professional.
This work is available from the composer.
