An evening song is a "nocturne," and a morning song is an "aubade." This composition opens with a relaxed, fanfare-like aria -- the sunrise. A lively "danza" in 6/8 follows and leads to a spirited conclusion. The melodic lines and harmonies are reminiscent of those of Ravel.
