My broad interest is community ecology and exploring the complexity of species interactions. Most recently, I have explored the roles of both native and invasive earthworms in the Southern Appalachians and in Indiana. My focus is on the potentially complex effects of earthworms on the forest leaf litter community, particularly the effects of earthworms on terrestrial salamanders. Different components of this research reflect my interests in ecosystem engineering, facilitation, conservation biology, invasive species biology, and herpetology. I conduct my research at Mountain Lake Biological Station in Virginia and Allee Woods, a 200-acre tract of old growth forest owned by Wabash College, in Indiana.
