Course Description:

This course explores various issues in the intersection of personality, social, and cultural psychology.  It is designed to expose you to different research perspectives, methodologies, and most recent developments in this area. Topics covered in this course include theories of self and culture, the measurement of personality across cultures, cross-situational consistency, cultural influences on personality and emotion. After taking this course, you should know diverse arrays of personality and social psychological research conducted by cultural and cross-cultural psychologists and should be able to develop research ideas and design experiments to test your ideas.

 

Assignments:

1.You are supposed to read the assigned readings every week, and turn in two

questions based on the readings by 9 am on the day class meets (email). Two questions should be on different articles. Each question will be graded on a 5-point scale.  130 points in total.

2. There will be a term paper (10 –15 pages). You should choose one research topic of

your interest from the topics covered in class, conduct a thorough literature review,

and design a plausible study. 80 points.  Due on December 13, 2004.

3. Class participation: 40 points
