The Blue Ridge of Central Virginia
Here are some images from walks I have taken along the Appalachian Trail.
The butterflies were out in force this day. They love the purple thistles.
Growing up in Colorado I always thought it was a myth about finding north by the which side of the tree the moss grows on. We didn't have any moss on the Ponderosa Pines. Here it appears that all directions are north.
Right in the path was a painted box turtle. He didn't appear to be in a hurry to get anywhere in particular.
