DUE: Monday, March 1, in class. Essays will be marked down for every day they're late.
LENGTH: 5-7 pages, typed, double-spaced
TOPIC: Your choice, as long as it focuses on something we read in the first half of the course -- from Whitman to Eliot.
The purpose of the essays you'll write for this class is to give you the chance to practice and improve your writing skills and to give you the chance to ask and answer a question that interests you, to figure out what you think about an interpretive issue in one of the texts we've read. The best way to do both those things is to start early, and come and talk with me or your grader about the essay you want to write. Graders' and office hours are the first link below. But in the hope of making my expectations for the essays as clear as I can, I'm also including three other links. If you have any questions about the essay, don't hesitate to ask.
