Mark Twain appeared on the cover of Time on 14 July 2008, as the star of the magazine's seventh annual "Making of America" issue. Time began the series in 2002. Twain was the only literary figure to be chosen as a national "maker." Below are covers of the ten annual "Makers" issues Time published. After 2010 (Edison), the magazine changed the name of the series to the "Annual History Issue," and featured ideas like "The American Dream" rather than (dead-white-male) people on the covers.
