Algorithm
First, look on WebAssign to get your raw Homework (H), Lab (L),
and Quiz (Q) scores.
Second, use Table 1 (below) to find your TA’s average
assigned lab score (LTA) and the
associated standard deviation (σTA) as well as the
overall statistics (LOA and σOA ).
Third, calculate your curved lab score as follows: LC = (L-LTA )×σOA /σTA + LOA.
Fourth, calculate your final score: S = 0.2×H + 0.5×LC + 0.3×Q
Finally, look up your letter grade in Table 2 (below).
Example
The student’s scores (from WebAssign):
H: 93.22%
L: 82.51%
Q: 72.73%
Their TA’s statistics:
LTA : 85.51%
σTA : 9.05%
Overall statistics:
LOA: 87.63%
σOA : 9.25%
The curved Lab score is then: LC = (82.51% - 85.51%) × 9.25%/9.05% + 87.63% = 84.56%
The final score is then: S = 0.2×93.22% + 0.5×84.56% + 0.3×72.73% = 82.74%,
which maps to a letter grade of B.
