Lighting Imagery   Design Development
The world of Sweeney Todd is a labyrinth of dynamic shadow, twisted shape, and shifting color. The characters, softly illuminated, float in the deeply textured space. Sweeney appears with the chorus, cut from the blackness, etched in searing, white-hot light. The city burns blood red as the young lovers travel through a haze of textured light, passing in and out of cast shadows and vanishing beyond scrim walls. Daylight seems to filter into the space to warmly illuminate Pirelli's Miracle Elixir and God, that's Good! For Johanna and By the Sea the darkness of night becomes temporarily softer, cooler, and less threatening.
