The Third Annual Spirit Walk
presented by The Albemarle County Historical Society
| A ghostly
evening walking tour of historic Downtown Charlottesville
Director's Note For the next hour and a half, we invite you to shed your cares and frustrations and enter a world unfettered by the demands of time. The spirits you will meet tonight have all the time in the universe. Theirs is the knowledge of eternity. Their earthly tragedies and catastrophes are distant memories, often even the occasion for gentle laughter. Their passions tempered by death, they observe us affectionately, much as we might a small child full of wonder and curiosity, helpless to provide answers to questions so urgently asked. But we are far too young for answers. We have only our symbols and tokens with which to meditate on young Edgar Poe's "mystery of 'mysteries." And for tonight, in his words, "the spirits of the dead who stood in life before thee are again in death around thee." Pay them heed. Bill Rough, Performance Director The Old Jail The old historic Charlottesville Jail house was lit to evoke a sense
of some of the spirits from the past. Follow the link below for a glimpse.
