The city limit sign which indicates that Troy IL is an "Illinois Main Street Community". Troy IL is just East of East St. Louis IL and has both old, established parts as well as some newly developed areas. The town has grown by about 40% in the past decade. According to the offical Troy history Troy was founded in 1819 by James Riggin and David Henderschott; Riggin named the town Troy.
On the other side of the Post Office from the strip mall is a Perkins Restaurant. A waitress there named Kristina was an enthusiastic booster for Troy.
A real estate company put together a nice explanation of the history of Troy IL but my picture captured too much sun. Troy IL is said to have been named for Troy NY.
