The city limit sign which indicates that Troy IL is an "Illinois Main Street Community". Troy IL is just East of East St. Louis IL and has both old, established parts as well as some newly developed areas. The town has grown by about 40% in the past decade. According to the offical Troy history Troy was founded in 1819 by James Riggin and David Henderschott; Riggin named the town Troy. |

The Troy IL Post Office is of recent construction and is located on the west side of town near a new strip mall. On the other side of the Post Office from the strip mall is a Perkins Restaurant. A waitress there named Kristina was an enthusiastic booster for Troy. |
