Professor Researching Recollections

Leonard Gordon, Professor of History at the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, visited Woodstock in February for his research on a book regarding Christian schools and institutions in India. Woodstock and Kodai will be included in his book along with Isabella Thoburn College in Lucknow, the Medical College in Vellore and the Agricultural Institute in Allahabad.

While Professor Gordon was on campus he spent timing talking with Dr. James Barton, Mrs. Diana Biswas, Dr. Cate Whitcomb as well as Principal Jeffery. He attended a day of classes in the high school to get the feeling of the 'current' Woodstock. He left well armed with copies of historical documents from the archives as well as names and references for more research from alumni in the States.

He is interested in hearing from any alumni, student or staff, who would like to talk to him about their memories of what Woodstock was like can contact him by e-mail at LG17@columbia.edu or write him at Brooklyn College, C.U.N.Y., Brooklyn, NY 11210, telephone 718-951-5198.

After leaving Woodstock he gave a paper at the International Center in Delhi titled "Gandhi's dialogues with Americans.' Gordon wrote a book based on his dissertation research titled Brothers Against the Raj, the story of Shubash Chandra Bose. He teaches Indian history at Brooklyn College and travels in India whenever opportunity permits.
