Day 12 - Thu: Cobh
Heritage Centre & Blarney
Travel along the south coast via Youghal, where Sir Walter Raleigh was once mayor,
to Cobh. Tour the Cobh Heritage Centre, which traces the history of emigration from this port
to the United States over the post century. Posters of ships such
as the Mauretania, which Dad reminds we were on when it visited Cork in 1948
Then drive through Cork and on
to Blarney where you may climb to the battlements of Blarney Castle to kiss the famous stone.
Shop at Blarney Woollen Mills which offers a wide range of quality Irish merchandise before
driving on through the farmlands of Cork and into the hilly countryside of Kerry to
Killarney. Stay at the Great Southern Hotel. Walk around town
before dinner. (B, D)
