Chris, it was really good to get your very full and interesting life story. Your explanation of when and why you left Woodstock was certainly new to me. I wonder if we in the class knew what happened to you at the end of 1957, or whether you just disappeared. I get the impression that maybe you yourself did not realize when you left school then that you would not be coming back.
Gil sent out some of my reactions from my recent visit to Woodstock, but something in your letter triggered another reaction which I thought might be worth sharing. It was your comment about how keen you were on swimming. Swimming was certainly an important part of the Woodstock athletic picture when we were there. I have no idea whether that is still true or not, and I do not know, either, what the people in charge of the current athletic program feel about swimming. However, I got the very strong impression that the people in charge of Hostel are NOT enthusiastic about having the pool there. They seem to be of the opinion that swimming is rather a ridiculous activity for a place like Woodstock (this may well be true in March, of course!)
The main person in charge at Hostel (is the position called Hostel Supervisor?) was actually saying that he thought they should just fill the swimming pool in and maybe use the area for extra shower space, or some such thing.
I don't know whether it is appropriate for alumni to get involved in such issues, but if it is, perhaps we should see if there is some sort of useful input we might have.
