Peter A. Beling
Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering
Ph.D., University of California at Berkeley
Peter A. Beling is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering at the University of Virginia. Dr. Beling joined the University of Virginia after receiving his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Beling has also held positions at the Center for Naval Analyses, where he worked primarily on military transportation and logistical systems, and the IBM Almaden Research Center, where he studied algorithms for parallel and distributed optimization. Dr. Beling is the founder of the Financial Engineering Research Group at the University of Virginia. He is an Associate Editor for International Abstracts in Operations Research and has served as a referee for numerous journals. He is Chair of the Technical Committee on Optimization and Search for IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics society.
Research Interests
Peter Beling's research interests include optimization theory and practice, financial engineering, and computational intelligence. He maintains research programs on credit scoring, financial information systems, linear and quadratic optimization, topological network design, and classification. He is the founder and co-Director of the Financial Engineering Research Group at the University of Virginia.
