Actors

The "Actors" in your game are the playable characters in your game. One of the first steps to customizing your game is to put in your own original characters! This includes changing their name, class, skills, attributes, and of course, graphics.

Making a New Actor

I'm going to start by leaving the default actors and making a new one. Click on Change Maximum and increase the maximum actors from 8 to 9. A new, blank actor page will appear.

I'm a girl so I want to make a cool girl character for my game. I'll name her Nell. For her class, I'll make her a Lancer, or you can make a new class.

The initial level and final level are fine for now. If you wanted a character to appear later in the game, you might consider starting them at whatever level you think your other characters will be at by that point. As for the EXP Curve, I'm still not sure how it works, so I'm going to skip that for now.

Setting the Parameters

Double click any of the Parameters slopes to edit them. These determine the rate at which your character will level up. Depending on what type of character you have, you might want them to have different max levels for each attribute. Look through the preset characters: Aluxes is a fighter, so his max Strength is very high, but his Intelligence is low. Gloria the cleric is just the opposite. Think about your character's fighting style and what kind of attributes they might have. Nell is a lancer, so she needs high HP, strength, and agility. So double click one of the parameters to start editing.

Edit Parameters

There are lots of settings here so let's start from the top. Quick Setting lets you generate a preset slope, A B C D or E. A has the highest maximum and E has the lowest. These are good for quick changes, maybe if you're making a short game. Next, Level and Value let you set the value at each level. So if, for some reason, you wanted the max hp of your character to go down to 1 when they hit level 35, and back up when they hit level 36, this is how you'd change it.

Explore the different settings

Generate curve is a very useful feature that lets you set what the lowest and highest value will be and then create a custom curve between those two values. Setting a Fast curve will mean the character reaches a high value quickly, but doesn't go much higher after that. A Slow curve will mean they might not reach a very high value through the bulk of the game, but will reach much higher values near the end of the game.

Set a curve

Finally, back on the main screen, you can edit the curve any way you like by just clicking the mouse button on the curve. This lets you make any sort of crazy curve you can think of. The Level and Value bars will let you know exactly what numbers you're at. I'm not sure why you would want to make a curve like this, but it would certainly make the game interesting.

This curve is just crazy enough to frustrate your players

You can toggle between each parameter with the tabs at the top. Think carefully until you get curves you think would be fun for your game.

Starting Equipment

Next is the Starting Equipment. Scroll through the list to decide which of the preset items you want your character to start off with, or make your own new weapons. I'm going to give Nell a bronze spear to start with, but I want her to have to find everything else on her journey. The Fixed box makes it so that your player cannot change equipment.

Graphics

Now for the fun part! Double click the empty box labeled Character Graphic to pick a sprite for our new character.

Double click Character Graphic

Looks like there's only one female lancer sprite, but we could change that by making our own character tileset. Or you could make a character anything from this list. Just because your character is a Lancer doesn't mean they have to look like the game suggests. I'll keep the default for now. You can change the hue if you want to also, but it looks a little strange.

Choose a graphic

After you click OK, the sprite will appear in the box. Now click the box right below it labeled Battler Graphic. This is the picture that will appear on the menu when you are fighting an enemy. The preset Battler Graphics correspond to the character graphics, so there's still just one female lancer, and she looks kind of strange.. but we could make our own graphic if we wanted to. I'll keep the default for now. Choose your graphic and click OK.

And that's it! You just made your first new character! If you want to see how to actually put the character in the game, check out the System page.
