Class field theory is a branch of algebraic number theory that gives us powerful results about abelian extensions of number fields.  The purpose of this talk is to give an exposition of the main tools and themes of class field theory and to state its most celebrated theorems.  In particular, I will discuss the idele class group, the artin map, and the reciprocity law.
