Matthew Althoff-Director of Equipment Room Operations

 


Matthew Althoff is in his ninth year working in Virginia's Equipment Room. He is responsible for the overall operations of both the University Hall and McCue Center Equipment Room.  He handles the equipment operation for 25 sports and is the school's liaison with Nike to handle the school wide contract.

Althoff served as an intern equipment manager at Virginia for the 1997 football season, as a requirement to complete his education. During that time, he help handled Virginia's equipment operations for both games and practices. After graduation from college he was hired on full time as an Assistant Equipment Manager in 1998.  In 2001 Matthew was named  hired as Head Equipment Manager by new Coach Al Groh.  In 2004 Althoff was named the Director of Equipment Room Operations.

Althoff received his Bachelor's degree in Sports Management from
Old Dominion University in 1998, along with minor in Marketing.

Althoff is a member of the Athletic Equipment Manager's Association and has been certified since 1999. He is also that association's District II President.

Althoff, a native of Virginia Beach, VA, is married to the former Sarah Beth Jennings of Norfolk, VA.





Kyle Riley-Assistant Equipment Manager

Kyle Riley is in his first year of working in Virginia's Football Equipment Room.   Kyle came to the football equipment room after being hired in 2005 in Olympic Sports Equipment Room at Virginia.  He is responsible for the daily operations of McCue Center Equipment Room.  He is responsible for fitting and maintaining all equipment for football.

Riley serve as a student manager for baseball while attending East Carolina University.  He also served an internship for football at East Carolina after graduation.   Kyle worked most recently at St. Chirstopher's School in Richmond, VA where he was in charge of all equipment for all their sports.

Riley is a member of the Athletic Equipment Manager's Association.
