Curry School of Education's

As a researcher for CIERA (the national Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement) and as the Curry School's Children's Literature and Language Arts professor, I have a strong commitment to making sure that wonderful books are available for teachers and families. This page provides links to book reviews and activities that support the language and literacy development of young children from Head Start and preschool through third grade.

Teachers - If you've been wondering how to develop phonemic awareness through children's literature or how to use books to enhance other aspects of your instruction, click on this picture.

The Charlotte Zolotow Award is presented each year by the University of Wisconsin's Cooperative Children's Book Center to the author of best picture book text in a book geared for the preschool to third grade set. Click on the tulip to see this year's winners.

Click on the books to see reviews of golden oldies as well as what's hot off the presses.

Families - Have you been wanting lists of books too good for your young child to miss? Click on this picture to see our UVa choices.
