When using biographies in your classroom, spend some time evaluating the biographies you offer your students. Begin with the chart below, skimming first, then moving into the text itself, and concluding with the place for this book in your classroom. Keep in mind that not every biography need be exemplary. If we truly want children to be able to assess quality, we must also expose them to materials and texts of lower literary merit.
