My research is broadly in the area of distributed, intelligent systems, specifically at the junction of health information technology, machine learning, and robotics. I am interested in problems such as computationally modeling behavior and interactions, integrating machines and networked systems with mixed levels of autonomy into environments with humans, and the creation of new tools that aid in patient disease management and education as well as healthcare delivery.
I received my Ph.D. and M.S. from the Computer Science & Engineering Department at the University of South Florida in 2008. During my doctoral studies, I also worked at the Army Research Laboratory. Prior to joining the University of Virginia, I held faculty positions at the University of South Florida in the College of Medicine and at the University of Texas Arlington in the College of Engineering. I hold a B.S. in Computer Science & Engineering from Texas Tech University.
I am currently recruiting motivated M.S., Ph.D., and undergraduate students so please contact me if you have similar research interests. You will definitely get a response from me if you mention a particular project/paper of interest or a research idea you are interested in pursuing.
