I have participated in both academic and community service. I see this as an important aspect of being an academic. Academic services such as journal paper review system can only be successful if every author reviews at least three times as many papers as they contribute. It is similar to a network flow, in that conservation of mass needs to be maintained for the system to be successful and efficient. As an academic, I hope to be an active participant of this aspect of academic service. I see academic service as three-folds. The first is my service to the larger academic community in my field. For this, I am an editorial board member of the OR/MS Tomorrow publication. The second is my contribution to the university and for this; I am a member of the UVa Library Student Advisory Committee. Finally, the third is my contribution to the department. I am currently the president of the UVa Chapter of Omega Rho Honor Society. Previously, I was involved with the UVa INFORMS chapter. As I grow as an academic, I hope to be more involved with this aspect of academia, especially at a national and international level. I would like to organize a session on consumer credit finance and OR at the next INFORMS annual meeting.
