 Standards of Learning

We know that standards of learning are an important consideration. The iPod history challenge aims to address several of the Virginia Standards of Learning related to both history and American Literature.

By playing the iPod treasure hunt, players will be able to:

•  Identify artifacts and source documents tied to local history, events, and culture (i.e. Jefferson Papers, Poe's Collection, Faulkner Manuscripts, etc...)

•  Locate and identify geographical locations in Charlottesville that are related to significant local historical events.

•    Conduct a historical and geographical analysis, including the ability to identify artifacts, as well as primary and secondary source documents, to understand events in history.

•  Identify & understand the importance of local artifacts and key figures that play a key role in the development of U.S. government (i.e. Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson)

•  Tie important local events to greater historical and cultural events that define American History.

•  Gain a sense of life in Charlottesville during different time periods (Colonial times to Modern times).

•  Identify literary figures related to Charlottesville and UVA.

These objectives are tied to some of the Virginia Standards for Learning for the subjects of history (Virginia and United States History, Civics and Economics, Virginia and US Government) and American Literature.

The above objectives are linked to the following SOLs:

•  Virginia and United States History: VUS1 (a), (g) and (h), VUS5 (b), VUS7 (a), VUS13 (b), and VUS15 (a) and (b).

•  Civics and Economics: CE2.
