Welcome! I am a doctoral candidate in the Woodrow Wilson Department of Politics at the University of Virginia. I expect to defend my dissertation by June 2012 and am currently on the job market for Fall 2012.

Broadly speaking, my research interests focus on international security, American foreign policy, and international conflict and bargaining. My dissertation, Decline and Devolution: The Sources of Strategic Military Retrenchment explains when and why declining states strategically retrench by voluntarily withdrawing their security commitments and military deployments from abroad.
