More Movies!

Posted by Kevin Carruth on 2009-07-28 @ 13:54:58

Just ordered Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series on blu. Hope it's worth the $200 price tag. I've been purposefully avoiding the series (having missed the first few seasons) for years waiting for a hi-def release. Finally it's here. I've heard nothing but good things from friends, so I really hope I like it.

Also picked up some new movies: Glory, World's Fastest Indian, The Matrix (which I hadn't seen since high school), and the entire Dirty Harry series. Dirty Harry was half off at amazon, and I'm glad because honestly, they weren't that great. They were good, but very, VERY '70s!

Innsmouth Horror and more...

Posted by Kevin Carruth on 2009-06-16 @ 17:04:11

So the new expansion for Arkham Horror is out. For those who don't know, Arkham Horror is a board game set in the Cthulhu mythos where players team up to combat monsters from other worlds in an effort to prevent a Great Old One (such as Cthulhu himself) from awakening on Earth.

"Innsmouth Horror" adds a new board and a bunch of new characters to the game, and I think so far it's my favorite of the expansions (2 others with boards and 3 'small box' expansions). The new mechanics are pretty cool. Each character has a unique personal mission which adds to the game, and the new board is pretty harsh. Instead of new "other worlds", there's a new mechanic for awakening the Great Old One. Basically the more spots the players lock down, the quicker the Deep Ones (worshippers of Cthulhu) rise and if they do, the Great Old One awakens.

Anyway, I got the expansion the weekend before last, and tried it Sunday night with 3 other people, and we had a pretty easy time of it. We got really lucky with starting items and such. Tried it again with 8 players (the maximum) this past weekend and had a much more challenging game, but we won in the end. Pretty cool stuff.

Yesterday I ordered a bunch of movies. I'd been waiting to place my next order until Generation Kill came out, and that was today. So yesterday I ordered that along with Weeds 4 and several movies. Should be a good weekend / next week!

Today I preordered a copy of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 at Gamestop. Apparently Juggernaut is playable only if you preorder there. That's OK with me, because I buy most of my games there, but I hope other stores don't secure their own exclusives; I hate exclusivity deals! But I'm excited about this game!

And that's about all there is that I can think of to jot down for now.

Blu-Ray # 100

Posted by Kevin Carruth on 2009-05-21 @ 14:15:48 , edited on 2009-05-21 @ 14:16:41

So I was just adding my two latest Blu-Ray purchases (Taken and Get Smart) to my site's list and noticed that they brought my total Blu-Ray collection up to 100 titles.

I love movies.
