Happy Holidays

Posted by Kevin Carruth on 2005-12-25 @ 03:42:19

Well, Christmas is finally here. I'm now 24, and this marks the first time I've spent Christmas Eve somewhere other than my parents' house. But considering that they turned my old room back into the parlor (which was always the plan for when I moved out), the only place they could put me up is the shoebox they call a "sewing room". I lived in that room for at least a year, two I think, and it was so small that in the mornings I could reach across the room to turn off my alarm clock without getting out of bed. So I decided to sleep here at my apartment instead.

Went to the parents house tonight for Christmas Eve dinner, played some board games and stuff, then came home. Going back tomorrow for present opening and birthday celebration and whatnot.

I get the entire week off, which hopefully will give me a chance to get my sleep cycle back on schedule. For at least the past month, my usual bedtime has become 5 or 6 am. I'd like to move that up to 1 or 2.

Well, I'm going to go try and find something to do for a few hours before I get sleepy.

I'm a pro couch potato

It's been a good month since my last post. The reason? HBO and WoW. Started a new WoW character on a new server with Forrest, Dustin, Wade, and some other folks, and I'm having a blast. I got so sick and burned out on the 40-man raids and the drama that goes hand-in-hand on my old server I was about ready to stop playing again when Forrest told me he and some friends were gonna start fresh on another server, so I followed suit. And when I'm not doing that, I'm flipping between the 3 HBO channels included in my apartment-provided cable watching movies I haven't seen before.

I've somehow managed to totally fuck my sleep schedule up over the past month, too. It's gotten to the point where I'm not even tired till around 4 or 5 am. Of course, I still have to get up at 10 am (or earlier). You'd think after a few days of only 4-5 hours sleep I'd be tired enough one night to pass out around 11 and so readjust my sleep schedule, but NOOOOO. I even tried pulling an all-nighter one weekend or two, but to no avail.

So what else has happened this past month? My cousin Craig came down from DC for Thanksgiving and stayed for a few days. Stayed from Wednesday to Friday. Plan was for him to catch a bus at 5:30 Saturday morning, so we stayed up and watched Heat, and were getting ready to go when he double-checked the schedule and realized the 5:30 bus went somewhere he didn't want to go, and his bus was at 8:30. So, we watched Tombstone. Then I took him to the bus station, came home, and passed out. Apparently he did the same at the station, and barely made it on the bus back to DC.

Got a renewal request from my apartment management. Gotta decide whether I want to stay here another year by middle of next month. Right now I'm not really sure. Plan was to look for a place to buy so I could resell it when I'm ready to move. But, I kinda like this apartment. And more than that, I'm a lazy fucker and I don't want to pack all my shit up again! But, I think the $11,000 next year will cost me in rent is enough to get my ass moving.

I've been developing a tolerance for country music lately. I never disliked it, I just never used to really listen to it because that's what the rednecks at highschool listened to. However, Country Music Television is just one channel up from VH1, and recently I've heard some really funny songs on there. With titles like "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" and "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk", how can one not watch? I have yet to purchase anything, and probably won't anytime soon, but I won't be skipping over channel 65 so quickly now.

Soul Calibur 3 also came out recently and that ate up about two solid weeks of my time. Awesome, awesome game. I've picked up one of the new characters, Zasalamel. Big dude with a scythe. And just recently I've gotten back into MK:Deception. Scorpion is still one of the coolest fighting game characters out there!

I haven't played much airsoft recently, and I'm missing it. Plan was to work on trimming some weight before starting playing again, but I'm lazy and that never really took off. I need to start working at it though. Not knowing any girls around here makes it easy to not worry about my appearance as much, I think. Not that that ever really got me to lose weight; just lowered my self-esteem.

What's coming up? Christmas! I'm gonna try not to eat much candy and stuff. I've been pretty good about not keeping sweets around, and thus not consuming them. However, I think I counteract that good with the evil of eating out.

Forrest is having a holiday party this weekend which I'm planning on going to. Don't really know why, I suck at parties unless I know all the people there. If I don't, I tend to sit off in a corner. Unless, of course, I'm drunk, but then I don't remember the conversations I have the next day (not from blacking out, but because I talk about inane shit that's not worth remembering).

Then it's home for Christmas. I'm hoping to take the entire week between Christmas and New Year's off (I think I get 2 of 5 days that week as holidays so the rest would come out of annual leave). Much drinking will happen around New Year's, I hope. I also hope to see some old friends, but we'll see. Many of them have been notoriously hard to pin down in recent years.

Speaking of New Year's, my cousin Spencer is getting married on New Year's Eve. Grats to him, but the day he chose, sadly, precludes me from going. If it were closer I'd make a serious effort to make it, but as it is I can't really make that trip. Wish I could though.

Well that's enough of that for now. Time I get back to work. Or, maybe take a nap. Probably work though.

Ah, 'Twas a Good Weekend

Posted by Kevin Carruth on 2005-11-07 @ 15:57:35

This weekend was busy, but fun. Friday Dustin came over (a day earlier than I expected him). Saturday Wade came over and we watched Band of Brothers all day, with a break at dinner time for a mini-birthday celebration for Farhad, at which there was much playage of the Soul Calibur 3 and Tekken 5. I almost had a 10-0 winning streak in Tekken too, but Eryn barely beat me out of it at the last second.

Then Dustin came over again Sunday and we watched a good bit of Firefly, I think I've got him hooked.

All in all, a very good weekend.
