The Demas Dozen Categories of Favorites
I frequently get the question "What is
your favorite film?" Unanswerable. It depends on genre and our mood. In
response we have generated a list of about 50 of our favorite films by genre. This will
certainly give you a feel for our tastes. If your tastes our similar to ours, it may
provide you with ideas on what to pick up the next time you are at the rental store or
marking up the cable listings for Turner Classic Movies or American Movie Classics.
Hot links will take you to genre. The reviews
of most films are available as hot links. Note that many films transcend more than
one genre but are listed only once so check under other listings if you don't see a
film. For example, many Noir/Crime films also fall under Drama or even in one case Sci-Fi.
Films that I have special fondness for are in boldface. However, with so many great
films it is almost impossible to pick out a limited number of favorites.
Nevertheless, a few of my absolute top films have an *.
