General Comments: The University of Virginia's chemistry department provides an excellent opportunity to blend in-class theory with hands-on research, a combination not easily found elsewhere.  The dedication of the faculty and administrators to encourage this research for undergraduates provides the fundamental building block that every chemist needs before entering the workplace or going to graduate school.  I can honestly say I learned more in lab than I did most of my classes, a sort of intuition that is impossible to grasp from a text book.  With such outstanding individual successes, I can only hope that UVA Chemistry continues to guide young chemists with open arms ... and whip for when they get out of line?
