Students solving real-world problems.
  sharing products beyond classrooms.

Authentic Learning Experiences are characterized by the following components. It is not critical to include every component in every ALE!

  • The audience for a student's product extends beyond the classroom.
  • Learning is connected to - and applied to - the world outside of school.
  • Students call on prior knowledge but seek out new learning to create the product.
  • Students drive their own exploration and inquiry with adult assistance.
  • Students become engaged in complex tasks and higher-order thinking skills.
  • Learning is interdisciplinary.
  • Assigned tasks are of interest to the learners.
