Graduated in 1986 with a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. Accepted a post-doctoral research appointment with Dr. James Galloway in the Department of Environmental Sciences (1986-1988). Took time off to become a mom, and part-time consultant. Received a research faculty appointment in Environmental Sciences in 1990, and began to develop the AMOM at UVA  program.
