I completed my Ph.D. in Science Education at the University
of Virginia’s Curry School of Education in
2011.
I am currently the Project Director for the research and evaluation
components of VISTA, the Virginia
Initiative for Science Teaching and Achievement, a 5-year, I3
grant that seeks to improve science teaching and learning at the elementary,
middle, and high school levels and build infrastructure for science education
in Virginia.
My background includes a B.Sc. in Chemistry and a M.T in Secondary Science
Education from the University
of Virginia.
Prior to graduate school, I taught Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Earth Science,
and Physics at Charlottesville High
School.
During the summers, I teach Introduction to General Chemistry Lab
course at UVA and Chemistry lab for students in the Summer Bridge
Academy.
My dissertation investigated how secondary science teachers plan for and
implement differentiated instruction in their classrooms. My other research interests include
educational technology, inquiry and nature of science instruction, and preservice and in-service science teacher professional
development.
