This is the original monument actually in Kitty Hawk honoring the Glider Wright Brothers. Below are some photographs from 1900, including one used for the graphic on the memorial. Wilbur nearly drowned sailing over here in a rickety fishing schooner with all the parts. This is N. of the big monument in Kill Devil Hills. Directions: Milepost 4.2 in Kitty Hawk, at traffic light for West Kitty Hawk Rd. turn West (by the 7-11). Drive several blocks past large Catholic Church. Turn Left on Moore Shore drive, monument is next to road on right. Back to Home
