Here's Mad Scientist John Vigour with an electric converted 2 Meter glider with camera, about 4 lbs. This is so hard! I have destroyed more wings and planes doing this than anything else. The ratio of pictures taken to those shown here is 25 to 1. Heavy planes fly fast and are hard to fly and land, plus you're trying to aim a camera you can't see! I've been using a .15 gas motor recently, and there's no vibration problem if the camera is mounted on foam rubber. |

I've tried pointing the camera diferent directions, but parallel to the wing or straight ahead and down seem best. |
Here's my house in Greenwood, VA Summer and Fall 1998. It took 2 rolls of film to get the one on the left, but I was able to give all my neighbors nice accidental pictures of their gardens. I hot- glued a small servo to a $30 self-winding camera, loaded in 400 speed film, and blaze away whenever I think I'm pointed right. You can see the flash go off in the air.

Impact picture as the camera goes off half under grass. The battery eliminator circuit failed in flight, destroying the wing a second later. Note that home-made folding propellor! |
