O ivy'd walls!
You flung me forth
Into a world of hate & bitterness,
Chill and survival-struggle.
Now, I want you back!
I long for your womb
Of intellectual security
And academic challenge,
Your days of study
And nights of talk unbounded,
Expansive, enlarging.
Call me back,
O College of my youth!
Gather me once again
Within your fold.
Let me strive to learn,
Let me try to teach,
But let me live
Where time is sweet
And knowledge
The glorious goal of all.
I miss you, alma mater,
In this hideous world
You un-prepared me for.
