When thinking of ways to improve the health of rural communities in the developing world people often focus on latrines or wells. However, evidence shows that the simple act of hand-washing can improve the health of communities by an equal amount. Most Ugandan families have soap, but few use it to wash their hands at critical times such as after using the toilet. We plan on constructing “tippy-taps”, which are simple hand-washing stations that can be located next to the latrine and use very little water. Hand-Washing
