Many residents of Rakai District boil there water before drinking. This however takes an inordinate amount of firewood and leads to high deforestation rates throughout the country. These bio-sand water filters are a simple technology that can be easily implemented in rural Uganda. The user simple pours a jerry-can of water in the top and, within a few minutes clean water comes out the spigot. There are no flimsy parts to break and very little maintenance to be done. The filters should last indefinitely. Bio-Sand Water Filters
