About

Welcome to the UVA home page about me. I'm currently the Helpdesk Managerfor the McIntire School Commerce. I work with a great team of other technology professionals who support the state of the art Rouss and Robertson Halls; labs, faculty, staff, and students with their technology needs. I also recently started working for the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy to help their growing technology needs. I started working at UVA in 2000 for the Center for Technology and Teacher Education which was a grant funded venture off of the Curry Education school. In 2007 I moved over to the McIntire school attracted by the newly renovated facility. Before all that, I was at Radford University doing much of the same stuff. The details of my career can be found in my resume. The best parts of my career are still with the CTTE where I had the pleasure of taking business-end technology and bending it to be used in K-12 education. I had fun playing with handhelds, tablet computers, wireless displays, web design, linux boxes, and interactive white boards. I was even sent to a Palm Conference in California once and San Juan, Puerto Rico in a partnership with Microsoft Caribbean. It was geek heaven.

Right now I'm working on Windows 7 deployment solutions for McIntire using the Dell Kace solutions. I still enjoy doing some open source hacking at home and try to read a Wired and Make magazine when I can. I've recently started refurbishing Zunes in my spare time. I'm sure that will change just as I finish updating this web site though. :)

LSP

I am a Local Support Partner for McIntire which links the School of Commerce with the main body of technology support known as ITC at the University. Duties include distribution of security ikeys from ITC to faculty and staff that need secure access to certain administrative University systems, troubleshooting networking issues, software installations of University licensed packages, and training the staff, faculty and students about ITC resources. For new faculty and staff it can be a bit daunting with some of the complex resources offered at UVA and McIntire. My role is to smooth them through the initial hurdles of setting up their accounts for the systems they need access to.

Responsibilities

Procure laptops and desktop computers for faculty and staff. I use imaging tools such as Kace and Microsoft Imagex solutions to standardize software configuration. I am also responsible for the Labs in McIntire of about 100 Dell Optiplex 755s currently running Windows 7. At the begining of the year I do an orientation of the software resources installed in these labs for the incoming undergraduate and graduate students. About 60% of my time is spent with helpdesk tasks that are assigned. I also maintain inventory and documentation of the various technology resources. .

Really?? Well if you need more of my most exciting life you can try and contact me on other places from the interweb;
