ADDENDUM ONE TO ALL FIRMS:

Reference:         Request for Proposal # GN031296

Commodity:         VERnet Internet Connectivity Services

Please reference the following for clarifications and changes to the
Request for Proposal (RFP) #GN031296 issued on March 12, 1996 for a
VERnet Internet Connectivity Services:

RFP Section III, Issuing Office:

    Add a sentence which reads, "Questions about this RFP may also be
	sent to Gary Nimax via e-mail to "nimax@virginia.edu".  If you
	wish to view an electronic version of this RFP, it is available on
	the internet on	http://holmes.acc.Virginia.EDU/~jaj/vernet_rfp.html 

RFP Attachment A, Background Discussion and Goals of the University,
second paragraph:
          
    Change the reference to "Attachment N" to "Attachment G,
	Dial-Up Modem Services".

RFP Attachment H, Scope of Required Services, Section B, Service,
fourth paragraph:
          
   This paragraph should be changed from "The Selected Firm will
   provide USENET News Feeds, MBONE feeds, DNS server services, and
   other such services to VERnet members upon request" to "The
   Selected Firm will provide USENET News Feeds, MBONE feeds,
   secondary and minimal primary DNS server services to VERnet member
   sites upon request".
                   
RFP Attachment I, Mandatory Technical Specifications, "Service Point
Locations":

   Delete the last sentence of this section.  The University will be
   unable to obtain firm commitments from the membership before
   signing an agreement with the Selected Firm.

RFP Attachment J, Preferred Technical Specifications, "Existing
Dial-up Modem Services":
          
   Change the beginning of the fourth sentence to read, "Attachment G,
   Dial-Up Modem Services and Attachment M, VERnet Dial-Up Site
   Location List detail the location...".
          
   Add a paragraph which reads, "The existing dial-up services support
   only telnet.  When users dial into the modem pools, the hardware
   automatically telnet's them to either the State K12 network (VAPEN)
   or the State Library network (VLIN) servers located in Richmond,
   VA.  VAPEN and VLIN handle all user support and only their staff
   may call VERnet for problem resolution.  Server-based software (The
   Internet Adapter) is used to provide PPP services over the telnet
   sessions in some situations but VERnet is not responsible for the
   operation of this software."

RFP Attachment K, Special Needs of Certain VERnet Member Sites:
          
   Add a paragraph which reads "The Lynchburg Library Consortium
   (LION) is interested in also obtaining pricing for a T1 gateway
   service.  This pricing will enable them to determine if they want to
   operate their own intra-city network or purchase services for each
   site."
          
Add RFP Attachment N, Current VERnet Service:
          
   Reference the newly added Attachment N, which provides line speeds
   for each VERnet member site.
          

All proposals must be received at the Issuing Office no later than
3:00 p.m., Monday, April 22, 1996.  The dates scheduled for oral
presentations and negotiations are being rescheduled and the
University will provide these dates to firms at a later time.
