MEC-206 Design Lab
Windows NT Workstations
Initial Check-out of Installed Software
(9-11-97)
Desktop Icons (machine
MEC32)
MS Internet Explorer
- Unable to create folder "C:\Program Files\Plus!\Microsoft Internet\history"
- Can't use Cache without write privledes
AutoCAD Release 13
- Loads up OK on MEC32
- On exit, gives error message: "INTERNAL ERROR: CONFIGIO: closing"
Then adds 2 new icons to desktop for trashed files.
Netscape
- "No valid encryption policy file found; all encryption and decryption
disabled."
- Terminates due to inability to read a referenced memory instruction
Acrobat Reader 3.0
Sprint2 (?) CAEFEM Version 3.0
- Loads up fine
- Can't reset the preferences
- No files available for me to test the program
Visual Basic 5.0
- Originally worked fine
- Later, tried to load new project and failed:
"Application Error: memory could not be read."
When chose to cancel debug, the MS Developer Studio
tries to load but fails because cannot read a directory.
Then entire machine hangs up.
WinZip
- Opens with Setup program, but of course cannot complete this w/o being
Administrator
WS_FTP95
- Seems to work OK
- User cannot save any new connection profiles
Cambridge Materials
- Loads up OK
- I have no current knowledge of how to use this program.
Simeon E-Mail
- Upon start-up:
"You have specified a working directory that you do not have permission
to write to.
Please change your working directory and restart
Simeon."
Program Folders
(same machine)
Accessories
- All Hyperterminal programs are inaccessible and need to be removed.
- Imaging: shortcut is to incorrect location
- Word Pad: shortcut is to incorrect location
- Phone Dialer, Chat, Dial-up Networking: inappropriate for these
workstations
Netscape Folder
- Utilities folder needs cleanup or removal
- Other programs are not applicable to Design Lab users
Norton Anti-Virus
Simeon folder
- Same comments as for Desktop icon
Sprint 2
Internet Mail and News
Windows Address Book
- Error while attempting to open Address Book file
Other Programs
on Machine MEC32
[These programs are on the hard-drive but not referenced in Program
folders or on Desktop]
Matlab
- Loads up OK
- I don't yet know how to use this software.
Visual C++ and J++
- Lots of stuff
- Presume these are opened with MS Developer Studio
MS Developer Studio
- Unable to create a directory needed to start
- Fails initialization and terminates
General Comments
- The operating system seems very often to add extra icons to the desktop
-- indicating files which contain program errors
- Need a program to allow the user to review and kill ongoing processes
Might be a good idea to include an icon for the Task Manager
