Karen Dares , whose e-mail address is daresk@gov.on.ca , hasn't been to camp but had this to say about it:

Haven't been there (yet). It can't possibly be as good as the Emma Lake Fiddle Camp, at Emma Lake, Sasktachewan, can it? I thought it was the ultimate fiddling experience!

Bill Grass , whose e-mail address is wgrass@tiger.lsu.edu , was at camp Jun. 94 and had this to say about it:

I really enjoyed the camp! It was great to spend a week with Mark & hear all those different kinds of fiddle music. I'd like to go back this year if I can. When I went in '94, I was the only Cajun fiddler there! I'm glad I found this page on the Internet.

jeff loen , whose e-mail address is loen@buttenet.com , was at camp Jun. 94 and had this to say about it:

Fiddle heaven, although the first camp was probably less polished than the following ones. Check out my article on the camp in Fiddler Magazine, Spring 1995. I had a great time, although I've opted for different experiences rather than going back again and again. I went to the Violin Craftsmanship institute in New hamnpshire last year, and then opened the vintage Violin shop in Butte, MT. So, Mark's camp was a shot in the arm for me! Thanks for your page.

Judd , whose e-mail address is peter274@maroon.tc.umn.edu , hasn't been to camp but had this to say about it:

I'd like to try this out...and am wondering if I should do it in the summer when I understand there are about 130 fiddlers, or should I wait till fall for a more manageable number? There may even be advantages to going with the larger number...more exposure to more peers, but the chance to fiddle with these accomplished teachers is what's really driving me. Trouble is, I'm excited about this enough that I don't know if I can wait till next fall. I have some other curious questions, and would like to discuss them if you'd care to connect. Perhaps on the Netscape chat too. Drop me a line.. thanks...Judd

Bryce was at camp Jun. 95 and had this to say about it:

The camp was a wonderful experience for me, and for everyone I talked to at the camp. You really have the opportunity to learn many things that you would never know otherwise. Originally a Bluegrass and Texas contest-style fiddler, I picked up a lot on the Jazz & Swing styles from guys like Matt Glaser & Buddy Spicher. My word to anyone who is considering the camp- "it is more fun than you've ever had playing the fiddle, one week you'll never forget!"

James Edwards , whose e-mail address is jedwards@seidata.com , was at camp Jun. 95 and had this to say about it:

Best Two Summers I have ever spent! Natalies preformance with the Canadians in June "94" was the most incredible fiddling display I have ever seen. At class the next day Mark said to her " This camp is so cool the teachers can learn from the students". I guess thats why he made her an instructor. Keep On Fiddling Jim Edwards

Enjoyed reading your description of Mark's camp. I've been getting the brochures for a year or so now and I've considered going, but chickened out since I'm such a novice. I'm just wondering. Does the camp include many rank amateurs or is it mostly accomplished players who show up? Terry

I never went to the camp but I've played in many fiddle contests against Crystal Ploman. She's a great fiddler. Kinda neet to see how small a world this is. If you know of any other fiddlers sites, please e-mail I'm new at this.

Erin Heintzinger , whose e-mail address is heintzin@nb.net , was at camp Jun. 96 and had this to say about it:

Fiddle Camp was the single most wonderful thing Ive ever done with my life!! I was the first violist ever to go to camp, I was something of a novelty. This year they added a new group to the fiddler's shuffle, the classical group. A large influx of classicly trained violinists(plus this violist, and a cellist) came to camp. I am new at fiddling, and I learned more there in one week than I have learned in my 10 years on the viola and 4 on the violin. Buddy Spicher was by far my favorite teacher. He took an interest in me because I play the viola. The cellist Katherine Pollock and I along with the director of recreation Michael Kott(a cellist) created our own group, "the cello/viola world tour: stoping at a cabin near you" The low string thing was a great success and we were a popular request at jam sessions everywhere! Also late one nite about 3 in the morning there was a jam session held on the docks, with Mark, Ida Levin, Natalie MacMaster, Darol Anger, Matt Glaser, Michael Kott, and im sorry if i forgot anyone. There were a few non participant listeners, and then myself, Katherine, Tim Hicks on guitar, and Chris Ho on violin. We created some of the most amazing music ive ever heard!!! Great page keep it up!!

Babette Goodman , whose e-mail address is babette@ipa.net , was at camp Sep. 96 and had this to say about it:

I had the most wonderful time at Fiddle Camp! The camp is held in the most beautiful setting, a really peaceful and relaxing place to learn more about fiddling and music. I've been asked many times if Mark O'Connor really is there. Yes, he is! It is truly thrilling to watch him play from a few feet away! All the instructors were really nice, cheerful, helpful, and informative. I am an adult who has spent most of my life playing in orchestras, and have had limited fiddling experience, altho I've had much interest in all types of music and have either fiddled or played violin with almost everything. I learned a lot at Fiddle Camp, and I can hardly wait to go back!

I can't wait until camp this summer. I can't go in the fall because I have school. I liked your article in STRINGS magazine. I can't wait to see you, Tree, Randy, and everyone else this summer. It's gonna be the greatest!

Mitchell Grobb , whose e-mail address is mitchgrobb@hotmail.com , was at camp Aug. 98 and had this to say about it:

I had a terrific time at the camp! I heard alot of different styles that I'd never been exposed to before, and learned alot!! Since I'm from Canada, the weather was a bit of a change for me (I'm used to the heat, just not the humidity!!), but it was nice though. I remember you Bo, but you probably don't remember me. Go to my website at www.mitchellgrobb.com to refesh your memory! I talked to you quite a few times at the camp in '98. By the way, I'm really enjoying this site. Good work!

I'm a beginner adult violin student, I've been playing for about five months now so I'm not exactly an experienced player. I was wondering if you know what kind of programs are available for novice students. Also what are the classes like, in general? The camp sounds absolutely thrilling.
