- I am a Baby Boomer.
- I started life an Army
(Daddy, Grandpa & Grandpop) / Air Force (Mama, Uncle Ed) brat, and
that still defines much about me.
- I've lived all my life
in Virginia, originally in a small apartment in the very northern tip,
and now on a small gentleman's farm in the center.
- Coming from a long line
of American patriots and happy marriages, I'm both patriotic and happily
married.
- I'm an only child, and
have always been very close to my parents and other family.
- My remarkable mother,
a fine example of intelligent and independent womanhood, and a very
hard act to follow, died in 2006.
- My grandparents, uncle,
and all great-aunts and great-uncles are also deceased.
- Unfortunately, I had cancer
(which I beat) rather than children (which I wanted).
- I am very grateful for
the continued presence of my father in my life, as well as for my supportive
husband.
- I treasure my circle of
"sisters", those wonderful girlfriends every woman needs:
Ruth, Lisa, Liz, Beth, Cynthia, Susan, Wendy, Jen, Sally and Kim, as
well as my dear online friends Sue, Tish, Anne, Libby, Cindy, Judith,
and Kim.
- I am a published writer
of short stories and poetry. I have one drawing published! I have innumerable
novels in progress.
- I hold an NRA expert rating
with the .22 rifle.
- Whenever I hear a train,
I have an almost overwhelming desire to go somewhere. This is, I think,
a heritage from both grandfathers: a railroad engineer on one side,
and a man infected with wanderlust on the other.
- I love animals, fiber arts,
books, history, train travel, vintage Fords, Teddy bears, swashbuckler
movies, old television Westerns, cycling, roses and African violets.
- Interests include wildlife
and environmental preservation, permaculture, and landscaping.
- My activities include investing,
dog conformation and performance, fiction writing, media fandom, photography,
knitting, embroidery, spinning, weaving, and freshwater and marine aquaria.
- Our farm, Willowtree, is
certified by the National
Wildlife Association as a Backyard Habitat because we provide water,
food and sources of food, and places to raise their young, for numerous
wild species.
- Our pets include dogs,
cats, tortoises, turtles, snakes, birds, and fish. Hoped-for future
additions include sheep, llama, goats, chickens, ducks, a cow and an
iguana.
- I play, with varying degrees
of talent and skill, piano, cello, violin, clarinet, recorder and folk
harp; I have belonged to various choirs in which I sing alto or, sometimes,
tenor.
