Miscellaneous Notes
  • The Chinook was developed from a mix of multiple breeds, including spitzes, but is not, in fact, very spitzy in its type. It is a sled dog, but not every sled dog has to be a spitz. I include it in the spitz section of this website for the time being, but will probably move it to a better-fitting section in the future.

Articles and Chapters
  • "Chinook: Sled Dog with a Difference" by unknown author. In: Dog Fancy, March 2004. Featured breed profile article.
  • A Celebration of Rare Breeds by Cathy J. Flamholtz. OTR, 1985. Capsule descriptions of a number of rare breeds, including the Chinook.
  • The Atlas of Dog Breeds of the World, 5th edition by Bonnie Wilcox and Chris Walkowicz. TFH, 1995. A survey of over 400 breeds of dog, with some excellent photography. This book covers more breeds than most, including rare breeds such as the Chinook.
  • Eyewitness Handbooks: Dogs: The Visual Guide to Over 300 Dog Breeds From Around the World by David Alderton, photography by Tracy Morgan. DK, 1993. Capsule introductions to many breeds, including the Chinook, with photographs: something of a dog-watcher's guide with no detailed information.
  • "unknown title" by "unknown author". In: Yankee Magazine, probably late 1980s. This article, an introduction to the breed and its history, was written at a point when the number of Chinooks was very low and the breed was in danger of extinction.
