  • The Basenji has also been called the African Barkless Dog and the Zande Dog
  • Placing the Basenji in a category for purposes of this project presented a challenge, since this primitive dog, a Southern spitz, is also a coursing dog.
  • The Basenji is one of our most primitive dogs, retaining the wolf's once-annual estrus cycle, and producing a yodel rather than a bark.
