VRS Update

VRS UPDATE: It was reported last week that Edwin T. Burton III, the new chairman of the Virginia Retirement System, declined Allen's request to become state GOP finance chairman.

He did.

But he changed his mind.

Burton decided to take the job because he's no longer distracted by the sale of RF&P Corp. He guided that deal over 20 months.

Burton is still concerned about a possible conflict of interest -- that money managers angling for VRS business will give money to the GOP.

He said he won't allow such donations: ''I can't be involved in fund-raising for the Republican Party of Virginia with folks that might have an interest in soliciting VRS.'
