Allen renames friend.
Gov. George F. Allen has named Earlysville friend and neighbor Ed Burton to a five-year term on the Virginia Retirement System board. Burton, an investment banking consultant who teaches economics at the University of Virginia, completed a two-year term on the VRS board this month and was given five more years.
Burton is working behind the scenes as the head of a VRS committee investigating the sale of the RF&P Corp. property the state retirement system bought when Wilder had dreams of putting a Washington Redskins stadium in Alexandria's Potomac Yard.
Treasurer of the Republican Party in the 7th District, Burton also has been active in the party in recent months trying to recruit several dozen women into the Charlottesville and Albemarle GOP committees.
