POETRY NEWS, Summer/Fall 2012

The most up-to-date way to get news from me is by liking my Facebook author page, or by following me on Twitter.

I've been doing a ton of readings for Makeshift Instructions for Vigilant Girls and Ideal Cities this past year.

See my readings page for details of upcoming events.

I love to do readings and craft talks, so please email if you want me to come visit!

I've been writing some prose pieces recently, like this tribute to Adrienne Rich up on the VIDA website,

and this piece on the Olympics and Poetry (specifically, trampoline) up at the Los Angeles Review of Books

(which was also picked up by the Poetry Foundation on their Harriet Blog).

In case you always wanted to see me on video, here I am on the PBS News Hour Art Beat blog reading my poem "Miracle Blanket."

You can also read about how I ended up reading for the News Hour, and my winding career path over at the UVA Today News Blog

My poem "Elegy with Construction Sounds, Water, Fish" from the Spring 2010 issue of VQR was published in

Best American Poetry 2011, edited by David Lehman and Kevin Young!

And I made Rita Dove's List of Young Poets to Watch over at Bill Moyers' website.

My seven documentary poems ("This is not a Requiem for Detroit") from the Spring 2011 Ruin & Rebirth issue of

Virginia Quarterly Review were recently awarded the 2011 Emily Clark Balch Prize for Poetry.

You can read my poems and essay from the issue online here.

The Virginia Tech MFA program is ranked #23 overall (and #16 in poetry) in the latest 2012 Poets & Writers MFA Rankings. We're very proud.
