Modules on torsion

March 12th, 2009 · No Comments

I have gotten a bit behind on posting these, so here are the first two lectures on torsion. Module 10 focuses on the basic mechanics of torsion and a derivation of the torsion formula. Module 11 then shifts gears and discusses the angle of twist. All of this is good information and it’s our first discussion of spatially-dependent stress and strain. Here, stress and strain vary with the radial distance from the center of the circular shaft. In the next chapter (bending), we will see a different kind of spatial dependence, but the stress equation will have an analogous form. Enjoy.
