This podcast details the beginning of Chapter 8 and focused almost exclusively on pressure vessels. The derivation of the stress equations is pretty straight-forward, relying only upon FBDs cut very judiciously from the whole structure. Remember also that pressure vessels are the first structures we’ve examined which have more than one stress present. In fact, the two normal stresses shown here are a nice bridge to the rest of Chapter 8 on the general case of combined stresses.
