This is also a good one, and it occurred to me that this kind of lecture really encapsulates the whole notion of how we are constructing our course. As you all know, I like the idea of presenting multiple perspectives on a topic, and then encouraging you to pick the one that makes the most sense to you.

For example, think about multiple perspectives in music.

  • This is sort of like the text book. Classic. Reliable. Direct.
  • On the other hand, this is what we do in our class. We take the classic interpretation, and annotate it with different descriptions, and use lots of different colors to annotate the figures and build the story. It’s just a more modern way to tell the story.
  • This, however, is way out there and very unlike most of the other interpretations, kind of like MecMovies. Slick, unusual, but potentially really helpful in developing a complete appreciation for the richness of the subject.

So consider these different interpretations and hopefully they will collectively contribute to your understanding.

Speaking of Hayseed Dixie, how about this vs. this?

Wow. Impressive analogy. Somewhat unfair to insult MecMovies like that though, and Hayseed Dixie should never have attempted the Motorhead cover…ever.

you have outdone yourself on this one professor. not only have you taught me about the section parameter Q, you opened my eyes to hayseed dixie.

but, agreed with cmm8kb. i like bluegrass, and who doesn’t like the occasional cover tune, but ol hayseed dixie takes some of the sacred riffs ever and…well, i can’t even say what they do.

all that said, i’m strangley intrigued and am tempted to look at all of their youtube videos
