Whoa Nelly! You are not going to believe how good this solution is. There is a long interlude in the middle of this cold one where I try to figure out how I made a mistake (around 22:30 of the solution)…but I explain a couple of key things: (i) how did I know I made a mistake?, (ii) how did I isolate where in my solution that mistake could be?, and (iii) how do I track down the exact mistake and fix it? Pure gold, man, pure gold. Check the “THE MISTAKE” chapter marker to see this part quickly.
My hope is that this will give you some clues on how to troubleshoot your own solution, and give you the confidence to track down your own mistakes. There are lots of things in this solution that you can use as problem-solving procedures–everything from the centroid and moment of inertia table, to the reminder about a units conversion that I have to do. In any case, it’s worth spending a few minutes with this one to see cold problem solving in action.
